Welcome note from Abu Bundu-Kamara

Abu Bundu-KamaraWe are extremely proud to be different. In 2003 we set up the Pearson Diversity Summer Internship Programme to address the concern of minority under-representation within our business. We've recognized that in numerous cases, graduates from ethnic minority backgrounds face particular difficulty at entry-level in the publishing and media industry. We’ve established this paid internship programme to address some of these challenges.

Our philosophy is simple: we want to attract the very best diverse talent with enormous potential to succeed within our business. The programme was specifically developed to give graduates an insight into the wide ranging opportunities across Pearson. We are very proud of the array of talent it has brought into our business over the years, and because of that we will continue to invest a lot of time, care and resources into the programme to ensure its success.

We are equally proud of the recognition the programme has received, both in the national press, and by organisations that know and care about the graduate experience. We recently won Race for Opportunity (the UK's largest race equality organisation) Award for 'Widening the Talent Pool'. We were also named finalists in the Rate my Placement National Internship Awards in the 'Best Work Experience in Diversity' category. We believe our internship programme is a unique opportunity for black and minority ethnic graduates to shine, and build vital professional and personal networks for the future. It’s a core value of Pearson’s mission to help our people and customers live and learn.

Our internship is like a dialogue. It's your chance to talk to us, and our chance to talk to you. And it's not just about the work. The social side of things has always been important to us, and through organised events, and the relationships you forge yourself, you'll be able to build a vital network of colleagues, mentors and friends for the future.

Over the next few pages you will learn how the programme works and discover if our internship is for you. I sincerely hope so.
