A note from... Abu Bundu-Kamara, UK Diversity Manager

David Bell, Director for People, Pearson plc

Welcome to the new Pearson Diversity Summer Internship Website. We started this internship programme in 2003 to address the issue of minority under-representation within our business. We've recognized that in many cases, candidates from ethnic minority backgrounds face particular difficulty at entry-level in the publishing and media industry, and we established this paid internship programme to address some of these challenges.

I fully endorse the Diversity Summer Internship Programme for a number of reasons. The programme is about attracting diverse talent with enormous potential to succeed within our business. It was developed to give you an insight into the wide ranging opportunities across Pearson and continues to be enormously successful and popular. You as an intern can expect to take part in real projects, real decisions and contribute to real meetings. It is a chance to shine, and through organised social events as well as the relationships you forge, you'll be able to build vital professional and personal networks for the future.

We at Pearson are very proud of the array of talent it has brought into our business over the years. We are equally proud that the programme was short-listed by Race for Opportunity (the UK's largest race equality organization) for their Chairman’s Award under the category ‘Attraction & Recruitment’

Over the next few pages you will learn how the programme works and discover if our internship is for you. I sincerely hope so - here at Pearson we've set ourselves the goal of becoming the best place to work in the world, so that even when our people develop the skills to work elsewhere they choose to remain and grow with us. This internship programme is one of the many ways in which we help people in our companies discover their own talents and abilities, and of course contribute to our business.

There's only so much you can learn about careers from books, brochures, websites or campus events. If you really want to find out what it's like to work at Pearson, work at Pearson. Our internship is definitely unique, short, intense, possibly exhausting, certainly enjoyable and completely memorable experience.  But don't take our word for it - find out for yourself and apply.
